I’m not sure when ‘glamping’ edged its way into our vocabulary, but it’s been around for a while now and it’s basically given camping a new lease of life, and a new identity – especially across the Channel, for here they are forward thinking when it comes to camping.

You can find some of the best campsites in France, which combine the authenticity of camping with a touch of glamour – and I’m not just talking about the accommodation or swimming pools. It’s now possible to enjoy relaxing spas as part of luxury glamping holidays.

Spas, saunas and Jacuzzis haven’t previously been part of the camping experience – but this is 2016. There are no limits to the comforts camping can offer! Here are 4 of the best campsites in France that lead the way in luxury camping:

Club Colombier (Frejus, Riviera and Provence)

[responsive-image id=’2050′ align=’left’ caption=’Club Colombier’s restaurant’]If a lazy river, a lagoon pool and three water slides doesn’t sound relaxing (or fun) enough, the parc has its own on-site spa, where you can truly unwind. For just a few euros you can enjoy a variety of treatments and relaxation therapies. You also have access to two heated Jacuzzis by the pool – all to the sound of the gentle rustling of the palm trees overhead.

Don’t forget you still have a host of other activities here, like playgrounds for the kids, a gym, pony trekking, horse riding – and you can hire bikes to explore the surrounding area a your leisure. St Tropez is just a boat trip away, while you can also book an excursion to explore Monaco – the epitome of luxury!

Domaine de Massereau (Sommieres, Languedoc)

[responsive-image id=’2047′ align=’right’ caption=’Hit the water slides’]This place is unique – it really is. How many campsites do you know of that are nestled on a working vineyard? You can take a tour of the wine producing château and sample its produce (one for the adults, clearly), but this is also a family-run parc – so if you’re looking to go glamping with kids then this is the place to go – they’ll love the waterslides, and young ones will enjoy the toddler pool with its mushroom fountain.

In addition to the heated swimming pool you also get an indoor spa complete with massage and steam room. Let’s not forget the Jacuzzi and sauna! If you prefer to relax outside, you can do that riverside – it’s accessible directly from the parc.

Les Alicourts Resort (Pierrefitte, Loire)

[responsive-image id=’2048′ align=’left’ caption=’Les Alicourts Resort’]How would you like to relax? This campsite has a range of options – check out the indoor Balneo therapy wellness centre, which is where you can experience a hydro-massage! It also has a sauna and a Turkish bath, as well as an impressive pool complex with a retractable roof. The spa is perfect for winding down, while the lakeside beach provides an ideal location to relax outdoors.

But if you want to throw a few activities in there, you’ve still got golf, cycling and even a chance to ski on the lake using overhead cables to propel you along! There’s a great choice of kids’ clubs, and horse riding is just 7km from the parc.

Sylvamar (Labenne-Ocean, Gascony and Gironde)

[responsive-image id=’2049′ align=’right’ caption=’Pool complex’]One of the main benefits of this campsite is the outstanding beach that lies less than 1km away. But if you don’t want to stroll that far, there’s plenty of aquatic adventure on site too – three pools, a play river and triple waterslide. Let’s not overlook the indoor kids’ pool, either. Modern shops, bars, restaurants and museums are within reach at the elegant Biarritz.

And when you want to chill out, in case you and the family have explored a bit too much, you can indulge at the luxurious indoor spa and wellness complex, which includes a Jacuzzi and Turkish bath.

Do you know someone who’d love to add a bit of glamour to their camping holidays? Why not share these indulgent glamping destinations and provide the inspiration they need to take a truly relaxing trip!
