Gianna’s Tiramisu Recipe

Aunt Gianna's Tiramisu

Tiramisu has to be the classic Italian dessert – a delicious combination of ladyfingers, mascarpone, marsala and coffee. I wanted to share with you my great aunt Gianna’s recipe…now, if you like your tiramisu served in a nice neat square, this isn’t for you.  This final result is a bit messier, but I think it’s creamier and prefer it to a spongier version. Buon apetito!

2 eggs

150g sugar

200g mascarpone

2 tbsp marsala

1 small cup of coffee

18 ladyfingers

100g dark chocolate

1. Separate your egg yolks and mix them with the sugar.

2. Add the marsala and mascarpone and mix in.

3. Whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks then add them to the creamy mixture.

4. In a dessert dish at least 2-3 inches deep put in half the ladyfingers which have first been dipped in the coffee, then add half the creamed mixture on top and repeat the layers

5. Grate the chocolate of the top of the final layer and place in the fridge until you’re ready to serve, but for at least 1 hour.
